Glitter Shoot Part 1 | Coeur d’Alene Boudoir Photographer

I am incredibly behind on sharing these glitter sessions I did last year! Yes you read that right.. Last year. I really need to get to blogging more. This was SO much fun! I seriously loved having the glitter and gem pasties as an added accessory for these shoots. Such a fun transformation! All of my clients that have done the glitter shoots said they felt like either a mermaid or Wonder Woman.. Which are both totally bad ass! Here are a few of my favorites from this shoot. Facing Fear

She was honest. She told me during hair and makeup that she had thought about cancelling the morning of her shoot because fear had set in. She wanted to come up with any excuse to not show up but her husband convinced her otherwise. Let me tell you, when your significant other understands the importance of this- not for themselves but for you- they get it. They see and understand that you are lacking something. That you need to do something for you to help light that fire within again. That is such a good quality to have in a spouse, to be able to see outside of themselves and see the purpose behind it. That it’s more than a photoshoot.

Anyway, back to my story. She didn’t cancel. She came in, still afraid, but watched as that fear melted away and was replaced with laughter and confidence. Over the past 6 months or so, I have adopted this idea that if it scares me- I should definitely give it a try. Now I am not talking about the “fearing for my life” kind of fear.. I mean the fear that tells me it won’t work, or that I am not good enough. The fear that keeps me in my comfort zone, when I know I have to step out in order to grow. That kind of fear. That is the kind of fear Kaydi was having, and I am so glad she pushed past that and did it anyway! I have enjoyed watching Kaydi’s journey since her shoot. The shoot gave her a newfound confidence and helped her realize that all of those big, scary goals she had really aren’t that far away.

Here is what Kaydi had to say about her boudoir experience!:

“Doing a boudoir shoot with Amber was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time! I signed up for it even though I was really nervous and super self conscious. I am a mom of two, and my body has morphed from slender and tight to curvy and a bit fluffy. It has been something I’ve really struggled with because I had my oldest when I was 19, so I never really felt like I got to prance around my “bangin” body before I was covered in stretch marks. As years went on, I grew to appreciate my mom body, and then I had my son 2 years ago. I haven’t been able to drop the weight (hello getting older, goodbye 19 year old metabolism) and I’ve beat myself up over it since he was born. I took the plunge for the boudoir shoot because I’ve never been one to let my negative thoughts get the better of me, but this time they were. I schedule my shoot hoping it would force me to appreciate the body that gave life to my kids, even if it wasn’t the body I loved. Let me tell you, my shoot blew me away and I don’t even know the girl who thought those things about herself anymore! I was nervous and wanted to chicken out the day of but thank goodness I didn’t, because I spend my spare time drooling over my photos (is that weird…? Probably!) and so does my husband. It lit the fire in me that fizzled out two years ago. It got me motivated to lose my baby weight and go back for another shoot once I accomplish my goal. But most importantly, it brought me peace and appreciation. I can see the beauty in this body that made me a mom and I can appreciate all those stretch marks and the curves I gained from becoming a mom. Amber was so warm and kind and made all my fears fly out the window as soon as I walked in the door. Her hair and makeup artist rooted me on the entire time and made is fun and relaxing while prancing around in things I wouldn’t have dared to put on otherwise. Frequently Asked Questions | Hello Beautiful Boudoir

A little while ago I posted in my Hello Beautiful facebook group asking women to share with me questions they may have about boudoir. About the process, about preparing, about anything they have been wanting to know but haven’t had the opportunity to ask yet. The response was great! I received many great questions, but had to narrow it down to a few for this post, and then I will address more of them on a dedicated FAQ page on my website. So here we go!

I don’t know how pose and afraid to look funny, do you help with that?

Absolutely. In fact, every woman that comes into my studio is NOT a professional model and knows nothing about posing. And I like it that way! I direct you from start to finish, so that you don’t have to worry about whether you are doing things the “right” way. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable in your own skin as possible so the outcome is genuine, fun, and sexy.

Will my photos be posted online?

That is completely up to you! I have a few different options when it comes to the usage of photos online and in my portfolio. You have the option to have complete privacy and no photos will be shared online, you can opt to have anonymous (such as the photo below) photos only posted, or you can sign a full model release allowing me to use them on my blog, social media, and printed portfolio. No matter which option you choose, I love you just the same!

I have some stretch marks I’m not sure if I want in my pictures, what is your take on photoshop?

While my message will always be to embrace the body you have and to love the skin you are in, I completely understand the love/hate relationship that stretch marks present. I make sure to ask you ahead of time if there are any areas on your body that make you feel self conscious, or if you have blemishes/ stretch marks you are wanting to minimize/ remove in post processing. I am able to minimize most with proper posing and lighting, however if photoshop is needed I can do so.

What should I wear? Does it have to be lingerie?

This is the question I get the most and I say wear whatever makes you feel sexy! It definitely doesn’t have to be lingerie, although most opt for some form of lingerie. It can be bra and panty sets, silk robes, slips, body suits, etc. Most also bring some other form of clothing as well, such as a sweater, jersey, or their love’s favorite work shirt. Don’t stress too much about wardrobe though. I’ve had some opt for no clothing and just a bed sheet and completely rocked it! I also send you a prep guide to help you select what to bring as well as what other accessories you may want to consider (like heels, those are a must!)

I want to do a shoot, but I don’t have a significant other to do it for. Do women in this situation still do boudoir?

YES. Absolutely yes! While I agree that doing a shoot for a significant other is an awesome gift, I am more into what it does for YOU! I shoot boudoir because I love empowering women and helping them find their “sexy” again! So many of us are tired, over worked, and barely have time for ourselves at the end of the day. Most of my clients come to me with wanting to do this as a gift, yet it always becomes an even bigger gift for themselves. You don’t need the “gift” excuse to do something amazing for yourself. This is a lifetime experience that truly changes you. It changes your perspective of yourself and gives you a boost in confidence you may not have known that you needed. You definitely don’t need a significant other to bring sexy back girl!

Can I bring someone with me to my session?

Sometimes your best friend is exactly what you need to calm the nerves for your shoot! I am completely fine with a friend coming to the shoot, however I ask that they don’t interfere by telling you how to pose or adjusting hair or wardrobe. I have my stylist working with me to do that! I do ask that NO husbands/ boyfriends/ significant others attend the shoot though.

How will I get to see and select my images and products?

After your shoot, we schedule a viewing session where I reveal the images and we go through and select the ones you love. If you booked a package that includes product, we select the images to have printed. If you opted for an a la carte shoot, we will then go over the products and choose what you would like to order. I help you through the whole process! If you are one of my out of town clients, I do have the option to do this online using a password protected gallery.

Every Woman Should Do Boudoir… No Matter What

I truly believe in what I do and what boudoir does for women. With so many different voices out there telling us what we should look like, what size we should be, how we should dress… It becomes a huge task to try to love ourselves as is, and at times seems impossible. We see many women though step out in bravery baring it all, all of their flaws and imperfections and we admire that, yet rarely do we get the chance or the courage to do it ourselves. Boudoir offers that chance for every woman. Each woman that comes to me for a shoot comes in feeling nervous, unsure, and a little (or a lot) insecure. They leave though with a new found confidence. Some have even told me they never believed they were beautiful until they did a shoot and got to see their photos for the first time. To me that is huge! And I want to make it easier for every woman to experience this.

There are two main objections most clients have that don’t end up booking a shoot. The number one objection is fear. Now this one I can’t help you with other than to write words of encouragement and let you know you totally got this!! The second most common objection is money. I get it! We all have bills and we all have to prioritize. Boudoir isn’t a need, it’s a luxury, but it is an investment in you. This is the part I can help you with!

I have had many inquiries from women wanting a smaller, more condensed version of the packages I offer. So here is what I am going to do. I am going to offer 10 spots for boudoir shoots that I call “Name Your Price Shoots“.

It’s very simple, all you have to do is email (hbboudoir@gmail.com) me with what you are wanting in a package and what you are wanting to pay! If I can’t photograph you for what you offer, I will work with you on a package that will be reasonable for the both of us. Offer minimum needs to be at least $350 to be considered. As a reference, my pricing for a boudoir shoot, hair and makeup, and 15 edited digital images is $950. I’m not saying that is what you have to offer, this is just for you to consider while you decide what to offer.

Here are a few other things to consider as you think of an offer:

1. I HIGHLY recommend you have your makeup done by my MUA. It’s a small added expense that lends itself to HUGE results.

2. Yes, You can get a few girlfriends together and all come on the same day!

3. What is a reasonable offer? Well, in my mind it is one in which you are happy to pay it and I am happy to receive it. Please keep in mind I need to cover my expenses at the minimum and since I do pay my bills this way making a little money would be awesome too 🙂

4. I offer products such as albums and prints as well as digital only packages. We accept MasterCard/Visa and Cash.

5. I promise you an awesome experience no matter what you pay and I am so excited to get to work with you!! Please email me if you have any further questions!

Boudoir Confessions | Spokane Boudoir Photographer

Let’s be real here… The most common reasons I hear from a potential client about why they aren’t booking a boudoir shoot right now come down to these two categories:

It’s not a priority right now, or more commonly known as “I can’t afford this right now”. This reason is completely understandable. You have to prioritize where your money is spent! And when you want it bad enough, you find a way! Other than offering payment plans, this reason isn’t something I can personally help you with.

The second category is fear, or more commonly known as “I still need to lose weight”, or “I don’t want to be judged”, or the worst- “I’m afraid that all of the horrible things I think about myself will be true”. I know that we tend to be constantly looking around us at examples of what we “should” look like, and most of the time we fall short of that. This makes us believe there must be something wrong with us and that we are flawed. This way of thinking is so far from truth though. The feedback that I get the most from my clients is that they walked in a little scared, unsure if they will like what they see afterwards, and leave knowing the truth about themselves. That the nasty things they say about themselves aren’t true.

We make a point to not transform you into something you could never achieve on the daily. It’s important to me that what we do in the studio is to enhance the beauty that is already there. I wouldn’t be doing a very good job if your photos end up not looking like you. The change that happens in the studio is completely within. So if fear is your reason, I say bring it! It’s ok to be scared. Just know that you will leave the studio with less fear and more confidence. This will be a start to finding the intimate, daring, and beautiful woman that you are.
